In an impressive vote of confidence for our community, our organizations and our members, the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce have agreed to collaborate on a Community Leadership Conference, now scheduled for

January 18-20, 2008
South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island.

When looking at the economic progress that our region has experienced during the last eighteen months and the potential for even more in the months and years ahead, assembling the Boards of Directors, Volunteer Leadership Teams, Investors, Members and Supporters of our respective organizations has become a clear priority. Additionally, community members, civic organizations and government leaders will be invited to participate.

“We are at a unique time in the history of our community and our region,” said Ray Gilley, President and CEO of the EDC. “Never before has the interest in Central Florida been greater, and never have the resulting opportunities for economic development, conventions and tourism, and community building been more prevalent. At a time ripe with potential, it is natural that we would collaborate in such a way.”

The goal of the Community Leadership Conference is to enhance communication, broaden our collective reach, and share issues and ideas of importance to citizens, organizations and the region at large. As we’ve seen with the recent public engagement initiative – “How Shall We Grow?” – momentum results when interested parties come together for a common cause and the common good.

Gary Sain, President and CEO of the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc., added, “We must find ways to enhance collaborative efforts and maximize community resources in every area. We must build upon each other’s strengths, and provide assistance to our counterparts when they need our help.”

The development of the Community Leadership Conference will be led by the CEOs of the three partner organizations: Gary Sain at the Orlando CVB, Ray Gilley at the EDC, and Jacob Stuart at the Chamber. A Joint Planning Committee will be announced shortly and will consist of representatives of the three organizations as well as other community leaders who will provide intellectual support and guidance in crafting the Conference Agenda.

“We’ve always been supportive of each other and our respective roles in the community,” said Chamber CEO Jacob Stuart. “The time has come that we stand together in supporting our common vision for Central Florida while continuing to champion our respective goals and objectives. I believe, in many cases, we are already on the same page and we should not hesitate to say so.”
