About the Community Leadership Conference

What is the Community Leadership Conference?

In an impressive vote of confidence for our community, our organizations and our members, the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC), the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), and the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce have agreed to collaborate on a Community Leadership Conference, scheduled for January 18-20, 2008, at the South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island.

When looking at the economic progress that our region has experienced during the last eighteen months and the potential for even more in the months and years ahead, assembling the Boards of Directors, Volunteer Leadership Teams, Investors, Members and Supporters of our respective organizations has become a clear priority. Additionally, community members, civic organizations and government leaders will be invited to participate.

The Community Leadership Retreat has the enthusiastic support of the 2008 Chair of the Metro Orlando EDC, Frederick W. Leonhardt, GrayRobinson, 2008 Chair of the Orlando CVB, Mark McHugh, Gatorland, and the 2008 Chair of the Orlando Regional Chamber, Des Cummings, Jr., Ph.D., Florida Hospital.

Who should attend?

Everyone. In addition to the Leadership of the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC), the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), and the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce, the 2008 Community Leadership Conference represents a cross-section of high-ranking community leaders and active volunteer leaders from across the central Florida Region.

Why should I attend?

The Community Leadership Conference is a three-day forum whose primary purpose is to create a place for businesses, community-based organizations, associations, public-private partnerships and regional institutions to share a common vision and promote regional excellence. We will assemble leaders from a seven-county region (Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole and Volusia) to analyze and address regional issues so that Central Florida will thrive in today’s global marketplace.

Do I need to be a member or a Board Member of Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau or Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerceto attend?

No. The 2008 Community Leadership Conference is an inclusive community gathering open to anyone. It is a joint effort focused on inclusion and the diversity of thought and action.

What about others from my office? Or, just one conference registration per company?

Everyone is welcome. Because we all wear different types of hats in our work place, volunteer work and community service . . . everyone is welcome.

Are spouses invited? What is the additional cost?

We encourage spouses to attend and participate in the three-day Conference. In this case, our "Full Delegate with Spouse" registration rate is the best option for the two of you.

Friday, January 18 - Sunday, January 20, 2008.
